Cultural Amnesia composed in situ in the recording environment. Whatever tape machine we had was set on record most of the time. Composing, and recording were more or less identical processes for the band.

At first we performed more or less directly to the tape machine, with secondary tape cassette sources running "live" as we played, walking around the microphones. Later on we started using a 4-track portastudio.

'CA were prolific. They pressed the ‘hungry button’ compulsively. Almost all their work was recorded as it was created, ranging between pure improvisations to carefully constructed multi-part pieces that made the most of their limited technology.' - Press My Hungry Button blurb
